WHAT IS GOLDENSEAL?
Goldenseal is derived from the root of the Hydrastis Canadensis plant. Its roots are bright yellow. It is introduced to early by Cherokee Indians who used it as a wah for skin diseases, wounds, and for sore, inflamed eyes. The Cherokee Indians introduced it to the settlers. It is currently used topically to treat acne, cradle cap, eczema, "swimmers' ear," and pink eye (conjunctivitis). Internal use of goldenseal includes treatment for diarrhea, fever, and sore throat. The most effective use of goldenseal is in the treatment of diarrhea, as an adjunct to oral dehydration therapy. Goldenseal is available as tincture or fluidextract.
